This week’s post comes from my latest piece in Current magazine (I have two more forthcoming). Killers of the Flower Moon, which is still in theaters, is available for on-demand rental or purchase on a variety of platforms. As some of you may know, I wrote a book about Scorsese — I’m a big fan — but don’t consider Killers his best work.
Let me also take a moment to acknowledge the passing of Norman Lear, one of the giants not simply of television history, but American cultural history generally. I was deeply honored to get a blurb from him for my book Those Were the Days, a history of All in the Family. Here’s a piece I published in USA Today a few years ago about the show. On Sunday, I’m slated to appear for a two-hour show on Lear’s legacy with the Pacifica radio network.
I plan to resume my series on the place of love in American life next week. See you then!
