Love this! For me that person is, perhaps strangely, Pete Townsend. Just bought "1980" and looking forward to reading it. I remember the year well :-)

That is very interesting, Liz. What is it about Townshend that you find so intriguing. I will say that "All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes" is one of my favorite albums.

I saw The Who live at Carrier Dome in 1980. They played all their usual hits and were clearly going through the motions. Then in 1981 during my freshman year, I met a group of diehard Who fans who were obsessed with Quadrophenia. A true Rock Opera that Tommy never quite lived up to, in my opinion. There is something about Quadrophenia... it's driving rhythms, solid melodies, and street/ocean/life sounds..that really captures me. In 2017 I got to see Pete perform it with the Boston Pops. It's the album that made me realize his musical genius. His album "Scoop" (all demo recordings) shows that genius in action.
